Uses and Benefits

Valium Tablet 10mg is used to treat severe anxiety, insomnia associated with anxiety, muscle spasms, adjunct in seizures, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, premedication before anesthesia, sedation in minor surgical and medical procedures. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion during the treatment.

Composition

The active ingredient of Valium Tablet 10mg is Diazepam 10mg.

Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Diazepam acts by controlling the nerve activity in the brain that causes anxiety and other conditions. Thereby balancing the nerve cell activity helps in reducing anxiety, relaxing the muscles, and allows sleep.

Contraindications and Caution

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the Valium Tablet 10mg:

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the Valium Tablet 10mg such as Diazepam
• Severe hepatic impairment
• Abrupt withdrawal

• CNS depression
• Alcohol use
• Alcohol or drug abuse history
• Seizure history
• Elderly or debilitated patients

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of this Valium Tablet 10mg. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

• Drowsiness
• Fatigue
• Asthenia
• Ataxia
• Venous thrombosis (IM or IV use)
• Phlebitis
• Confusion
• Depression
• Dysarthria
• Headache
• Tremor
• Dystonia
• Amnesia
• Urinary retention
• Constipation
• Nausea
• Incontinence
• Diplopia
• Dizziness
• Irritability
• Disinhibition
• Libido changes
• Rash
• Xerostomia
• Sialorrhea
• Menstrual irregularities
• Hypotension
• ALT, AST elevated

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

• Respiratory depression
• Dependency (abuse)
• Seizures
• Suicidality
• Bradycardia
• Hypotension (severe)
• Syncope
• Cardiovascular collapse
• Blood dyscrasias
• Jaundice
• CNS stimulation, paradoxical

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or chew it.

Avoid missing/forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which may be dangerous to your health.
Valium Tablet 10mg may be taken with or without food.
Take the medicine at the prescribed time and dosage.
This medicine is not approved to use in anyone younger than 6 years.
